Chrome Plating: The Six Step Process
1. On pre-painted wheels, the paint is stripped down to the bare aluminum then polished by hand to remove
any imperfections.
2. First Nickel Plating. Adds a strong coating that protects against corrosion.
3. Copper Plating. This is a cosmetic coating which smooths out surface imperfections in preparing for the
remaining plating.
4. Copper Polishing. After the copper plating, the wheel is once again hand polished to smooth out the
surface and generate a deep luster.
5. Bright Nickel Plating. Adds to the polishing and plating process which prepares the wheel for the chrome.
6. Chrome Plating. The last step of the process, which requires the right amount that each wheel needs to
have to generate an even coating.
